A famous classical poet has said that the aim of literature is ‘to teach and to delight’. In the work ONE poet you have studied, examine some poems where both of these aims (instruction and something that pleases the reader) have been included, and show how that has been achieved.

In the set of Emily Dickinson's poetry, there are not long but very powerful. She can use one sentence to replace one stanza, she can use one word to include one sentence. That is the charming point of her poems. Especially for the poem called “I am Nobody, Who are You?”. There are only two stanzas in this poem, but it has a huge theory that being famous is not fun. People become worldly but that is not the good attitude toward life. What is important in life is being a person works on what they enjoy that would not affected by others. In this process, that might be long and bored. However we should continue because if everyone tries to make their goals come true by fair means or foul. We will all not be truly happy.

She set herself as nobody in the first line, because she does not want other to recognize her as somebody else except nobody. That fits her real life, she stayed in her house for the rest of her life. And nobody payed attention to her works until she died and the poems was published. Therefore she had been holding this idea that being unfamous for the whole life. In the first stanza,  she repeated two times she was nobody. She was firm to be nobody because that is her belief. In this world, there are a lot of people seeking for power,money or status. They forget what is really important. Dickinson does not like this attitude to life, so on the other hand she was looking for someone who has the same attitude. She asked who are you but then she had already viewed “you” as nobody. She thought there is must be a person on her side. She has a stream of hope in her heart that someone in this world has a same theory. Then, in the last two sentences she is in her own imagination that has met a person who was also a nobody. She was afraid that others would know them. If others know them, they would be titled. That is not the life style she wants. She just wants to write good works.

In the second stanza, she stresses being somebody is dreary. She used a metaphor that public person who live under people’s attention are like frogs. Frogs can be pet that live under people’s order and attention. It is not freedom. Same with people, there are many people living in this word, doing something that is not really wanted by them. They might get power, gain money or obtain status. However they are not truly happy. They are forced to become somebody. Therefore author wanted to live in a bog that let mud cover her avoiding attention from outside, then she is able to do her job calmly.

6. In the work of ONE poet you have studied, consider how they have constructed their materials and their attitudes to remind us that we live in a global village where mutual respect is of utmost importance.

Each poem has its own emotion. When I read My Grandmother In The Stars, I can feel author misses her grandmother so much. She could not see her grandmother again in this world, so she visualised her grandmother as the star in universe. That is very common, people need a thing to place on. Author put all her miss into that star.  In a whole poem, although she misses her, she is not sorrowful. She’s tone shows she still expect future. She is absolutely sad, but she knows she has to continue.

The first stanza is a very beautiful introduction. She did not say her grandmother died in a straightway, which might be not polite. Nobody wants to mention sad things,therefore it is nice to only describe how she feels at that time. It is just simply like if it is sad,then something bad happened, If it is lively which means it is fine. In the stanza,author said she feels dusts in her throat.  It is an emotion that she wants to cry. Everyone had this kind of feeling before whether he or she feels sad or wronged. Author has a dream at this moment that she hopes to see her grandmother. And she knows that is impossible. The farthest distance for author is between she and her grandmother. So then she makes a metaphor that she is the sky above the earth but grandma is one of the star in the universe. They can only look at each other, sadly cannot meet each other. What a pain for them!

When I read the second stanza in the first time, I thought there is no relationship with the first stanza. It describes some trivial matters in normal life. I think author just want to talk to grandma without topics, which people like to do with their close people because they enjoy sharing everything with each other. And grandma is the “partner” for author. Author is not used to live the days without grandma near her yet, hence she writes the things she want to talk in a poem. Everything that is related to death is not allowed to say in the poem because author seems to have not accept the truth that grandma is leaving. There is no word “missing” in this stanza, but what I feel strongest is missing. So I wonder sometimes missing is not necessary to express by using polished,fancy words, however it might be a silence or an uncomfortable condition when someone suddenly realizes she or he has gone.

The last stanza is a little bit contradictory with previous stanzas. Author said their hearts are never in a same place. Maybe they had conflicts before, they might argued for something that old and young usually think differently. Both have strong hearts, they had their own thoughts. However it does not matter now, author releases now. She finally realizes the memories of argument or drifted language are the precious memories. Now what she feels is miss.

When we read a novel, we know that is not real. However, we have to wonder why author created this. Author must want to express whether an idea or a kind of emotion. After I finished MLML,I realize there is something we cannot compel. Therefore that is my theme if I stage the whole play. I want it to be a tragic play.

I am going to divide the whole play into three parts. The first part is when T is in the village and how she takes care of Daniel. The second part is when she is on the way to the palace. And the last part is when she sees Daniel,but she cannot get him. T will show up on a tree and she will sing a happy sang. That is necessary to leave a expression of sunny to the audience. She is a girl who loves life so much. she has to look like a child singing on tree seems nothing can worry her. That is her major characteristic and also it is a contrast that after she knows Daniel is married. One day, she sitting on the tree as usual saw a car accident. She runs to it and finds a bleeding man,a handsome man. She uses hands cover her chest. She feels her heart never beating so fast like this time. She then realizes she falls in love. At this moment, all props have to be moved. light only focus on them, a pleasant girl holding a injured man. This shows how T feels, she only cares about this man right now. What happened near them does not matter. She carries Daniel into home. For making a huge difference, Daniel’s cloths need to be fancy. So it contrats with the poor situation in her house. In the novel, Daniel has slept for a very long time. However, I do not want to spend too much time on this. It is a good idea to play a time-passing background music to demonstrate a long time. And while music is playing, T can wipe the sweat on the Daniel’s face. T pats Daniel when he is having a nightmare. All this detailed action can show T loves Daniel deeply.

The second part is going to start with the ending of T’s recall when she holds her hand with hands What happened in the first part is from T’s recall. After Daniel goes back, T begins recalling from she first met him and how she looked after him again and again. And after the hundred times she recall, she decides to go find Daniel. When she is on the way, she meets several people, and all of them ask where you go and why. Her answer never changes. “I will go to that palace, I love the young man in the palace.” and after she answered. some are shake their heads and walks away,some are said “you are crazy”. However one day she meets a little girl and when the little girl hears the answer, she nods. T is so happy, because that is the first time she meets someone supports. She enters the city and walks through the people who wear totally different from her, and all the people look at her with a surprise facial expression. That is the second contrast between rich and poor.

When she finally gets close to the palace, she sees so many people are there. She asks why. People tells her a rich young man called Daniel is holding a wedding. She is shocked. Then she falls down, but nobody helps her. Lights gradually turns off and music gradually stops. The last scene is going to be same with the first scene, but there is only a tree without a sunny girl singing.

She is different since she sees word differently. She is a sunny girl, she can do anything for the love. She does not care fate or how other thinks. She is being herself and love she loves. In the village, she might be the only one thinks there is no difference between rich and poor. So she likes to wear bright-colored cloths but not like those villagers who wear grey normal cloths. One's attitude decides what she wears. TM thinks this word is full of possibilities. She enjoys trying new things. She might changes cloths everyday. Although not expensive or fancy,she created by herself. She uses small fruits like grapes to be earrings, she puts the wicker on her neck as a necklace. She is a shinning point among villagers not only how she wears differently but the positive attitude she has.

In this book I noticed there are many contrasts between two opposites things. The most significant pair is rich and poor. The main girl character called Ti Moune lives in a poor area and people in this village have no relationship with rich people. Or they don’t even want to have any relationship with them because they believe their fate. They just want to live normally  like how their last generation live.

The scene I choose is from chapter five when there is a big black bird coming to this village. When I continue, I realize that is the name of helicopter for poor. Because they never seen this before. Author uses exaggeration to show the huge difference between rich and poor. This can also demonstrates poor and rich do not negotiate. These two types of people living in two different worlds. Something locks their relationship, which is fate or the experience from previous generation.

From long time ago, rich and poor stopped their relationship. As time moves, they both have something grow in minds. For rich it is called proud. For poor it is called self-abasement. After the helicopter landed, the rich man shows an attitude that seems each one of them in this village owe his money. He enters cabin and sees his son lying there,but he asks a very rude question. “what have they done to you?” That sounds terrible for poor. This question hurts everyone because poor are trying their best to take care of this young man. And as a result this father judges on if they hurt their son or not. That is a important symbol of rich’s proud. They deeply do not trust poor. If I were one of the poor, I would be angry and asks them to get out of the cabin as quickly as possible. However, nobody among poor has this kind of reaction. That is what self-abasement done to them.

When I stage this scene, I would like to choose black as background color because it takes place after the storm. This book has many myth stuffs because there are four Gods. So villager can believe what they see, even a giant black bird carries a person. When “the bird” landed, everyone’s attention should be focus on the bird so it is necessary to have a stream of light on the bird. We have to use any ways to build a fancy impression of rich. Like what I said prebiously, it is important to show rich’s proud. While rich gets off the helicopter,he does not to do much facial expression. Actors can act like “nothing makes me suprise”. Oppositily, poor is shocked. That is the first time seeing a helicopter. For costumes, it is a good idea to ask poor wear similar clothes because they do not have money or energy to care. Anyway the point is to let audience figure out who is rich who are poor by the first sight. For rich’s scripts it does not have to be long. 1(nothing to talk about with poor, they are living in different world),2(they do not respect them) These are two possible reasons. What poor say usually follows rich’s question. They never have conversation with rich so they don’t know how to start. Their impression should be like obedient.

There is an argument between TM and MB who represents the whole village about one's fate. For the girl she does not care about anything tries to stop her for instance fate. As long as she can feel the loud heartbeat when she heard the boy's name. She will not change her mind. Teenagers are full of energy, once they decide what to do, they are going to use whole power to meet their goals. They have no fear, same as they don't have any consideration. Or these considerations are not useful for them because it is just too complicated. What they think are quite simple, if love,be deep. However old people have different thoughts. MB doesn't understand why this girl insists loving an impossible man. Old people experienced too much things so they begin to believe fate. They did not lose their loving things but meanwhile they learn how to release. They know fate already help them decided. That is why they have an argument. They are holding two opposite belief living in this world.

That is my first time to do such a long time oral presentation. In general, that was a good experience at least I have done a thing that I never did before.

What I enjoyed in this presentation is preparing. I had to write a note card so I am able to know what I need to say next. I took two times and I failed the first time because I did not know what I should say more. So I saw the timer count down but I could not think of any that I can say. I do have lots of stuffs to say, it might be just too messy in my mind. Note card helps me organize and mention my next progress. I had five parts on my note card which are introduction, plots, staging, what can be improved next time and conclusion. Notecard helped me a lot for the second time.

It required at least 12 minutes, and it was challenging for me. When I first heard the rubric, I did not believe I could do this. The fact is I really not reached the minimum time. So I summarized two reasons why. First, I feel I repeated the same thing again and again. For example I said more than three times “the father wants to protect his daughter because father thinks the girl has not known the world is so dangerous. That was one of father’s personality, hence it is necessary to talk about more personalities the father has. Second, it is a good idea to use quote whether from my scripts or books to support these analyze of father.

After I finished the oral, I can finally breathe normally. This time was not good, I will be improved for the next time.

This is the greatest show I ever seen in Cheshire Academy. And it is not only my opinion,my friends agreed with that. Also,this is a new style. What I noticed is this  included many music stuffs. So it should be called a musical drama. During the show,I was wondering who actually made those good songs. I still remember one sentence of lyrics “stick to the man”. When everyone was sing this song on stage,that affected all audiences. I could hear some of audience sang along. It was a contagious environment. So I have to thank those students and faculties who played instruments. And those people who helped to move props,controlled lights.

It is a very inspirational story which touched me when they got a reward. I liked to see a group of people work together to finish a goal. In this process,it usually has funny moments,stumbling block. Funny moments are when students did not know what is rock,and teacher was a little bit helpless. Stumbling block is when students’ parents thought they were wasting time. However they never said “ok lots of people try to stop us,we give up.” That is the point I admire them. Whether what you are keep doing,as long as you are still doing. You can do it! Their story tells us a simple theory,but it is hard to insist.

It was a very good drama. It tells people theory. At the same time,we don't feel bored. That is the best proof of a excellent drama.

I am happy to see we finished our first draft,and we could figure out what problems we have to fix and what can improve. That was a scene three people have to have same amount of sentences to say. We tried our best to distribute same amount,but I still feel “Father” this character is less than others. So it is necessary to add more on father’s script.

Since that is our first draft,we were not able to control time perfectly. We should have about 15 minutes,but we only played around 9 minutes.

Besides these small things,the main problem is our blockings. I read feedbacks from classmates  and I found almost everyone mentioned about our blockings. They were confused. During the first scene,I forgot to turn back to audience,so for audience they could not see what happened on stage. I did not realize it is important to show to audiences but not perform alone. So next time,I will face to audiences. Another thing is sometimes we stand too far,which means not in the center on stage.

I saw a funny feedback from Marinda saying she first thought me and Jack are business partners. I have to be more angry and Jack has to not to be so creepy. His voice made him not like a man that girls love. It is just strange. Be angry is my goal,I cannot let my daughter fall in love with man who bring trouble to her. In the first draft,the relationship between me and jack is so good, we need to change that. Especially we shake hands,I think it is a good idea to delete that part because father actually does not want to. I will pat on his shoulder and say “ah,you are the man…” That is kind of like a warning to say I will beat you if you near my daughter. To my daughter, I should be like worry about her. People said I was too calm when I know they are dating. So I thought over and came out a process. From shocked to angry and then worry. That is realistic reaction.

From personal aspect, I feel the time between this couples are not enough, maybe I should give their more time to look like they are dating.

Anyway I think we have a good start. Just be louder,more emotional next time!

Children of the Sea
It starts when they meet while her father is going for a meeting for his job and brings his daughter and she recognizes his voice. They spend more time together; go to the market and have a picnic near the water (he then gives her the nickname of daffodil) and she later sits in on one of his broadcasts. The father finds out and takes her away and takes her radio away for a week. He gives it back and she get a message from him to meet her at the station that night, (the daffodils should bloom tonight outside the station, waiting for them is beautiful) and she sneaks out to meet him. She goes but he isn't there, instead there's a note on the ground telling her that he knew he was going to be taken to jail and he left on a boat to escape but he wanted her to write to him every day and he would do the same so they would s
till be together.

Scene opens and Gia is standing with her arms crossed on stage left, Zony pacing back and forth in front of her.
Gia: “Please Papa, I won’t bother you during your meeting. I just want to tag along!”
Zony: “No, I know why you want to come and it’s not appropriate. He’s too old for you and a bad influence. Besides, the chances of you actually meeting him is very slim.”
Gia: “Papa, I promise. I’ll stay in the background, you won’t even know I’m there.”
Zony: “There is no way I am letting a child come to a very important meeting such as this one.”
Gia looks appalled and storms off to stage right. Zony sighs and thinks for a moment then follows her.
Zony: “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to call you a child.”
No reply from Gia
Zony: “Will you stop being mad at me if I let you come?”
Gia gets up excitedly and walks/skips past Zony and exits stage left.
Gia: “Thank you so much, Papa!”
Exuent.
Scene opens with Gia standing behind Zony stage right, waiting. Zony turns around and addresses Gia
Zony: “Now remember, you cannot repeat any of the things said at this meeting. It’s strictly confidential.”
Gia nods in response and Zony turns around. Jack enters from stage left and Zony holds out his hand and they shake hands.
Zony: “Ah! You must be the man to show us around.”
Jack: “Yes I am, shall we get started?”
Gia gasps, recognizing his voice. She covers her mouth and Zony turns and gives her a stern glare.
Jack: “And who might this be?”
Zony: “This is my daughter, pay no attention to her.”
Jack turns to Gia and holds out his hand to her.
Jack: “Nice to meet you.”
Gia just shakes his hand and nods.
Zony: “So shall we get started? I’m very curious about this place.”
Jack: “Yes, let’s continue this way.”
They slowly walk towards stage left and Zony breaks off to look at some things.
Jack: “Does your dad always take his beautiful assistant with him to meetings?”
Gia: “Pardon?”
Jack: “Do you usually come with him to meetings?”
Zony: “These walls seem very thick, was that purposeful?” he says this in the background and they ignore him.
Gia: “Oh, no. I asked him if I could come.”
Jack: “Why was that?”
Gia: “Well, I actually listen to your broadcast and was hoping I would meet you…”
Zony: “There are no pictures on these walls, we need to liven it up!”
Zony walks over to the two and interrupts them.
Zony: “There’s a lot of work to be done but we can do it.”
Jack: “Thank you for your time sir.”
They shake hands.
Jack: “I hope to be seeing you again.” He directs this towards Gia.
Exuent.







Gia: “papa! Why are you here?”
Zony: “That is my question, what are you doing here?” (To Gia )
Zony:“You are not allowed to be around my daughter.” (To Jack)
Jack: “What do you mean, I love her. And she loves me!”
Zony: “My daughter doesn't love you, she will meet someone who is going to give her happiness which means a stable life. And that man is not you.”
Jack: “how do you know I cannot treat her well?” “Please trust us and bless our love.”
Zony: “I am not the old fogey but I oppose your guys definitely.”
Jack: “Why? Please tell me why?”
Zony: “It is not that I don't trust you want to treat my daughter well, it is because you might bring trouble to my daughter.”
Gia: “papa, please trust him,we can solve any problems when we are together.”
Zony: “my girl,you are too young to realize how dangerous is this world.”
“ listen to me this time,leave him.”
Then I bring my daughter back to home.
























Jack: “Hey, I’m glad you’re here. You look beautiful.”
Gia: “Thanks! You look beautiful, too”
Jack: “Yeah”
He takes her hand and sits on the beach.
Jack: “Do you see those boats over there? They travel for thousands of miles just to get to another country. Sometimes I wonder, what it’s like… if it’s worth it? It seems people are always looking for something better, but when does it end? Every second of our lives is meant to be cherished and right now I can’t think of anything I'd love to do more than sit here on the beach with you.”
Gia: “Yes, you're right, but sometimes I think about it. Do you ever wonder what it’s like to live in America? What it’s like to not live in fear?”
Jack: “Of course I do, but realistically, that’s never going to happen so we can just enjoy to moment now.”
Gia: “Yeah, this is truly an amazing spot.”




Jack: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I hope everyone is having a glorious day. The sun is shining upon the town of riverdale. Spring is here and the flowers are almost in full bloom. By noon on sunday all the daffodils will be in full bloom. The garden of eve will truly be a phenomenal sight to see. With this outstanding weather everyone should get outside and explore the world, and remember kids don't forget to sunscreen up. Unless of course you want to look like a lobster. Yummm. Anyways I’ve got to hand off the mike to my boy Jeff here to give you the daily updated. Jeff do you want to take it over?

We are going to perform a scene that a couple try their best to stay together. Girl is the big fan because boy’s voice is just so charming. One day,girl recognizes the voice. Girl is very happy,she catches the chance to meet that boy. And they fell in love. However a serious father who is me opposes them because he is worry about this man. I am strict because I do not want my daughter hurt. I dislike this boy who has a bad effect to government. Later on a letter proves that I was right. Boy leaves a letter says someone will put him in jail so he must leave. This makes me so angry,I cannot tolerate hearing crying from my daughter. Thus,I put all anger into that boy. I destroy the tapes he gave to her.

To show how strict and serious I am,I will not laugh at all. I will keep my angry face in a whole scene. And all my moving is followed by my daughter. I followed her secretly since I have a feeling that she is dating with that trouble boy. Then I began to use anyway to let them apart,I said many things that might hurts boy. For example: “you are not the right man for my daughter.” The only motivation supports me is I love my daughter so much,I do not want her get in any trouble.

Gia is going to play a girl loves boy so much,but on the other hand she is sort of afraid of father. So she listens to those tapes alone,she hides them. It is important to show two different moods when father is next to her and father is not there. This boy wonders why father does not accept him,so during the conversation between father and him,he should be like asking why a lot. “why I cannot be the right man,why you do not accept me?”

The story we chose is Children Of The Sea. I am going to play the strict father and Jack will play the boy,Gia will play the girl. This is a romantic but sad story because two big factors affects. One is me who does not want my daughter falls in love with this boy. Another factor is someone wants to put this boy in jail,so he must leave.

I think this role is meaningful for me since last time I played Romeo. And this father is totally opposite from Romeo. It requires a serious face all the time to show dislike of that boy. Gia is the only girl in our group so she plays that girl. When we staging, I suggest boy and girl stand next to me right and left. This shows I block their communication. However their body face to each other,which would only make them feel closer.

This is a scene includes a blind person who cannot stand and walk, a servant who cannot sit and an old husband and wife who live in big trash bins. They are Hamm’s parents. Anyway the first expression it gave me is dark,poor and bleak.

I don't like this show, people just talk but without a main topic. Also I hate how Hamm speaks to their parents. That attitude is just too rude and licentious. He might thinks their parents brought him to this challenging world. He truly doesn't like his life. he spends time on taking useless stuffs with servant,and he does not even cherish his life. I remember he said “why you don't kill me?” to servant. He just lives without any goal,which can be described as “living for living”. And the servant is a little bit silly. During the show, I was wondering why doesn't he run away from them since he is the only one can walk. I could see he eaglets outside world because he look outside through that window. These two people are kind of weird, they might tortured by this world so much. However, I admired the true love between old man and old woman. I cannot imagine living in such a terrible situation,they are still be together. No one says I gonna leave you. They don't give up each other although life made them suffering. They are much better than Hamm who already lose hope to life. Their relation is extremely solid that nothing can breaks them away. I was so moved when they had a dialogue like: “kiss me.” “We can't.” “Try”
This shows they are still fighting to this cruel world. Try this simple word means too much thing for them, try to live longer, try to stay with me forever. People are never defeated unless they forget how to say try. This part of show really touched and inspired me. Sometimes trying but still get nothing is not a trouble because you are making progress. Stones can be breaked by many drops of water, people will be stronger and stronger as problems solved one by one.

That was a great experience for me. That was my first time enjoying a drama in American theater. And actors did nice jobs that shaping character very well.

There are many good stories in this krik Krak. And most of them have sad endings,thus it can reflect how people living in a bad situation. However I do not think that is what author want to tell us. People are living in a tough lives,they never give up. Some are still chasing their dreams,some are still taking care of their loves. What I want to choose is a story that has a mom and a young boy.
 
“Night Woman” has more than three roles,night woman,young boy and two visitors. And I don’t want to totally based on the original. In the story,young boy seemed to know nothing about how his mom takes care of himself. So mom just silently give him endless love. That is too unfair for her. this boy in my new version should know all of this thing,he found out by accident when Night Woman thinks he is already fell in sleep. And one of the visitor came. Young boy decides not to directly help her mom like suggest her to stop doing. He is a smart boy,he begins to do something for her mom even it looks little. For example washing dishes,buying stuffs from supermarket. And his mom notices,she asks him why? Young boy does not want to tell. Mom knows her son is growing up. Story ends,they live happily. Night woman changed,she find a regular job in an office. She could not get a lot of money,but she feels great because her son is always be her side.

I tired not to make the story depressed,so I changed how it ends. Thus it can express author’s theory clearly.

Samuel Beckett is an famous Irish writer best known for creating radical new dramatic form.
He somehow does not like realism,his works usually don't have connected plots. His style is expressing human's pain.

His works are pretty much sad story.
He thought humors always based on pain.
(We would laugh if someone slip because of banana peel)

Our settings are really interesting. We made the man in the first story meet with Lili and little Guy. However not all of their settings are same with the book, we changed their ages. I am not that young boy who falls in love so deep anymore. Little guy is grown up, he is already in college. Lili began to accept taking care of little guy alone. Everything turns to good,that is what we want to show. Future will be bright,life has to continue. Although Krik Krak includes full of sad stories, author did not mean to express a pessimistic feeling. No one is deserved to get bad luck, as long as you are not giving up. Life will pay back what has been done on you. Our scene shows a good result. They are all in America now, and they all live in their new life now. Our dialogues are not long because that would not be shown a relax environment. We just talk about small stuffs in our life like what coffee is the best. I think this spirit is what author want to tell us,but she did not mention characters' results in the book. Thus,we helped her imagined,expanded a little bit.

Zoni: “I suggest the Caramel Dark Roast, best one in Miami.”
Gia: “Oooh, that does sound good. Thank you for the suggestion…”
Zoni: “Louis.”
Gia: “Lili”
They shake hands
Gia: “Thank you Loius.”
Ethan: to the cashier “Two Caramel Dark Roasts please.”
Gia sits down with Louis.
Gia: “Best coffee in Miami, eh?”
Zoni: “Yeah, I’ve been here long enough to know what’s good and authentic.”
Gia: “Where did you come from then?”
Zoni: “Haiti, moved here 10 years ago.”
Gia: “I thought you were haitian, your accent is depreciating. My son and I moved here last year for his college.”
Ethan: “Graduated second best in my class in high school. Heres your coffee.”
Gia: “Thank you. He really made quite the effort to get us over here. So what do you do for work?”
Zoni: “I work at a radio station, I take the early morning shift for the show.”
Ethan: “That sounds like an interesting job, did it require a lot of experience?”
Zoni: “Yeah, back in Haiti I had my own show on the radio, mostly political rants.”
Gia: “My cousin used to listen to the radio all the time, she absolutely loved it.”
Zoni: “We had a lot of listeners from all over the place.”
Gia: “That’s so fascinating.”
Ethan: “Mom, I should really get you to work; it’s getting late.”
Gia: “Okay, Guy. It was nice talking to you, Loius.”
Zoni: “It was my pleasure. I’m sure I will see you here again.”
Gia: “I believe you will.”
Zoni goes back to reading his newspaper as Gia and Ethan exit.

Krik krak is an interesting book,one of the reason is because it has its own special way to tell a story. There are tons of short stories in this book,which seemed to be unrelated. There are different characters, different places and different plots. What I found they are similar is they all share with a same theme that Haiti people at that time were suffering whether for love or life. They could not meet their dreams.

Simply telling what happened is just too boring,and it is also cannot arouse reader’s feeling. By using skills of writing,author made each stories very attractive. I still remember the first sentence in this book grabbed my attention. “They say behind mountains are more mountains...whose names don’t matter to anyone but themselves.” It was a sad but beautiful sentence. What I first thought is It must be a story telling two people get separated. As I predicted,lovers were forced to be apart. If it is just a romantic story I would not be so interested in it because I am pretty sure what would happen between couples. However for this story,I did not lose passion to read. Author dived into two scenes one is boy’s and another is girl’s. They were writing letters to each other. I would like to see how they response to each other when they heard what happened around them. I felt they did really love sharing experiences,but also I could taste the bitter of their missing. I think for showing how they suffering from missing,author purposefully dived into two scenes. They are living in different worlds.

The last story is also stylish. It is about woman’s pain that have no other choice excepting being a woman. However man can be soldiers,doctors or something else. Women have to use ten fingers to work,unless to say that means cooking in kitchen. Women cannot be a writer for unknown reason which is just ridiculous. I think this story somehow reflect to Danticat’s life. She used her accomplishment to prove women can use only five fingers to work,to hold a pen. She put this as the epilogue for a reason. Everyone whether what problems you are facing right now,do not feel frustrated. Tomorrow is yours.

KriK Krak includes tons of stories that how are Haiti people living in America. They faced different problems. Night woman had to earn money for her son, so she worked hardly. What is lucky for them is they did not have any conflict. In Carloline’s wedding,mom and daughter held opposite oppinions  on wedding.

Night woman had a tough life,but in some way she was happy. She was happy to wait her son growing up. While she was working, she could see the hope. Like the thing what she is trying to get. She usually sit next to his son and just watched him sleeping. She must feel proud. Rasing her son up became her main goal in her life. All the thing she was doing is for his son. So we could say she was tired and she was happy too. She only had one enemy to face,which is this society. She attempted to get anything she could for her son. However,Day Woman and Carloline’s mom needed to worry about another thing called relationship between mom and daughter.

Thus Night Woman was lucky or her son have not grow up yet that could not make his own decision. In Caroline’s Wedding,what made mom so upset is she was going to marry with someone that is not from Haiti. For her mom’s age people,that is what can not be tolerated. They still kept a old tradition which is already abolished in their next generation. Their children like Carloline as an example,she did not consider if this man from Haiti. They only cared about a feeling. That is what parents so worry about. They felt faint about this kind of conflicts. They were strong that they could never give up making their lives better,but they really cannot calm down when their children did not understand them.

It is easy to see in these three stories(Night Woman,NewYork Day Woman and Carloline’s Wedding), Woman were somewhat not be respected. They did hard work. Day woman was already old,but nobody gave a seat for her. Since they were from Haiti,some people even discriminated them,which gave them too much pain.

I admired immigrant settler who had to carry a whole family with sweat and sometimes cannot be understood by their children.

She talked about something that happened in Haiti. People suffered at that time. She inspired me although I did not experience. We would not know what happen  if she did not write those down. I think that is the charming point as an author.

She is brave. She fights for blacks' rights. That is what inspired me. While Protecting or trying to get something, it is not necessary to use fist or gun. There is another way called writing. Because words can make people feel what you feel.

Soft and gentle are two words that I can think of her tone. Night woman takes care of her son carefully and raise him up as well as possible. The whole story uses a hazy way to explain,which reflects too much work for her makes her out of energy. And her mind allows her thoughts go anywhere. She often changes thinking different stuffs. All these shows she is not on the mood.

When I was reading this book,the first feeling come out from my mind is people living in Haiti were not happy at that time. Something constraints them, they repeat the same stuffs that has already done so many times yesterday. They somehow hate right now life,they need a change. “Children of the sea” and “A wall of Fire Rising” are good examples.

The most hurt pain between lovers is not they could not stay forever,but they cannot even miss the days they are not apart. In the first story, girl’s father used any ways he can think of to stop his daughter’s love. The boy is already gone,but that was just not enough to father. What father want to do is completely destroy everything boy left. Girl has no freedom to keep those music tapes,Girl has no freedom to miss him. That is unfair for her. Any love exist in this world should be supported or blessed by others because that is such a pure thing. However,society help most of lovers decide which love will last,which love is doomed to over. Society constraints people too tight. I believe we all have a Eldorado in our mind. At that place, we can do anything we love to do, we do without worry. Yes,freedom is the right label. We are brave enough to do what we want, we are free ample to love someone.

And in the third story,there are two big conflicts. One is in the family and another is in his own mind. Guy and Lili have different opinions about their son’s life. What can be ensure is they both love their so much. They both hope their son will have a bright future. Because right now,they are poor. This society force this family has to consider how to continue life. Also,Guy struggled a lot too. He has a dream that ride a hot air balloon and float to anywhere as long as it is a beautiful place. However he has duty to carry this family. This main factor stops his dream.

In a second story, author's mom dead. However as a main character in this story, her name even does not mentioned. Author might thinks it is not necessary to say the name. The most important thing is remembering mom loves her very much. Author missed days mom took care of her gently,just like the first quote. Love is like a drizzle. At that time, author thought it was just simple true love, so she didn't pay too much attention on that. One day, that kind of love is lost. Although author still feel the love from mom,this feeling of being love becomes heavy. Mom in that suffered situation still loves and misses daughter. Author could not carry this love, that is the meaning in the first quote. Love drown you.
